The blue print is there for 10000m as well.

Ayana's only chance was to run a WR pace, but a stupid first 2 pedestrian laps cost her the race.
absolutely fantastic performance by Obiri. wow!
She just exploded on that final 300m.
Anyone know the final 3000 split?

I think it was near 8:20!

Final 4000m is more significant... 11:15 for her!! That's 14:03 pace.
So happy for Obiri! I would have rather seen a fresh Ayana vs a fresh Obiri, but that duel was incredible nonetheless.

There was nothing Ayana could do ...nothing. She can't go slow, because they kickers will destroy her. Can't go fast with Obiri there because Obiri can match her speed for speed and then out kick her.
no tactic was going to help her do to her lacking 400m speed. That is what Dibaba used to to do her, and Obiri followed that same script.
In championship races if you don't have a kick - you are screwed!
For a second there, I thought we were going to have déjà vu in the homestretch again... Ayana almost got passsd by Hassan in the homestretch due to turning of the gears just as Dibaba did two years ago.
I'm just shocked at how easy it was for Obiri. She didn't even have to kick that hard. The writing was on the wall when she'd failed to drop her with just two laps left. But there was that moment when Hellen tried to overtake her and she wouldn't allow it, I doubted for a moment and thought that she might have something in the tank. But no. Vivian gave Hellen Ayana's formula.
I wasn't too surprised... Ayana's legs had a lot more fatigue in them... She and Obiri have similar ability to begin with... give her an advantage like that, and she will win 9 out of 10 times...
I figured it was over when Ayana went from running three 68s to a 69... she was slowing.

that, too!
But remember this: Obiri just did that. Pretty copied it.

Not necessarily true. Many times Ayana ran such a fast pace, that G. Dibaba didn't have any kick left in her. She had the upper hand against Dibaba more times than Dibaba. I think Ayana can run a faster 5k than Obiri.

The 10000m win says otherwise
not at 5000m . Dibaba has beaten her there . Vivian has beaten her there. and now Obiri has beaten her twice.
At shorter distances you need a kick...you saw what happend to mo yesterday.
Ayana will never be queen at 5000...and now Hassan is at 5000m with a great kick. Ayana might drop to 3rd best in the world.
It was the same thing with Haile. He didnt have the great kick to be the king at 5000 like he was at 10000
Who cares about the WC. What counts is times- So far Ayana has better time than Obiri. 14:12 vs 14:18.
If Ayana maximizes her potential and runs WR pace, the other can kick as much as they like- they'll be second
Too bad .. Ayana had already raced the 10,000 huh...? Rethink your business...

I'm talking 5000m
She will never be queen of 5000m because she runs the 10,000 first.
Ayana has never lost to Obiri in the last two years in races where they both were fresh.
There's a 5k coming in one of the diamond leagues shortly.
we just agree to disgree. Ayana lacking finishing ability just leaves her vulnerable at 5000m.
Tirunesh is a great kicker, which is why she was able to do the double in the olympics and at the WC. And she always ran both races. Vivan ran both races in rio, just like Ayana did, and she beat ayana at 5000. So that is an excuse to me.
Again, we just agree to disagree.
