Thrilled for her but wow these WCs have been a total random number generator so far.
Weather + drug crackdown. No Russians and Jamaicans putting down the needle. Only Mo allowed to go one mo round. On Phyllis: a youth phenom at 800m, still holds the 15-16 girls JO record:800m 2:04.83 Phyllis Francis Laurelton-Queens, NY Omaha, NE 07/26/08Came to UO and ran 1:27/2:08/4:51, so has the best 800/1500 of any WC finalist!Moved to the 400 her sophomore year.

She lives and trains in Texas (at Texas A&M). We get plenty of rain here too.
Vince MF'n Anderson!!!!!
bump above idiotic "Natasha Hastings" thread
up
Miller went out too fast and Felix chased her. Both paid the price. Neither can run 49-low in rain and chill. Francis went out conservative and took the big scalps.

Phyllis always had good speed, in H.S. she was also a 24x/54x sprinter while focusing on the 800m. By the time she got to Oregon, she had transitioned into the body you see today which is more suitable to the 400m. I think she ran her best high school 800/mile times as sophomore and appeared to go through a puberty slump.
Her and her sisters used to go to the ymca in my neighborhood when they were in highschool
great person too... #Ducks

Great job by Ducks coaching staff developing the sprinting of Stevens and Francis. While other coaching staffs seem to move athletes up as they get older, these two have actually moved down from their best high school events.

Coach Taylor at the UofO deserves credit for making Phyllis into a sprinter, but its Vince Anderson who has made her into a World Champion as he has coached her for the past three season. While her p.b. has dropped a bit, she has become much more consistent and proven to be a big meet performer. Curtis has admired the work that Vince has done with Phyllis and Vince would give all the credit to the athlete. Both are great coaches and humble men.

Yes they are, I had the privilege of learning from coach Anderson. I'd love to know how coach Taylor weaves his magic.
Coach Taylor is very open about what his athletes do in training. Google is your friend. Also look at anything from Tony Wells as he is the foundation of what Curtis and Caryl Smith-Gilbert do. Always remember that the little things that count and you won't find those on paper.
Very happy for Francis. I have been thinking her day would come, and I am glad it did. Seeing her pull ahead was exciting.
I picked Phyllis to medal, obviously not gold. The result should not be too surprised considering she is the American indoor record holder and finished second at USATF nationals. The rain helped her because it made it more of strength race. I also helped that Shanae and Alyson seemed to be racing each other each other to the 200m mark and forgot about everyone else. Btw, expect great things from Phyllis, the rain slowed down that race about a half second, I will not be surprised if she drops a low 49 before the season is over with.
she has a twin sister doesn't she?
