I don't usually agree to theories as to why an athlete didn't try to win, but this is an exception.
Ayana was to break away, and Dibaba was to clean up for silver. No doubt.

I got the same feeling watching Farah and Ayana as I did watching Barry Bonds when he was doped to the gills.

Everyone said she was on drugs when she won in Rio but NOTHING was found on her.
Ayana is blessed with Stamina but not speed.
If anyone is close to her to the last couple of laps, they may beat her. She has no change of gears.
Her style is to take it out of them with a gutsy front running tactic.
NOTE: She has not run recently because the Ethiopia Fedration does not allow athletes to run in the g prex months before a championship. This has been the case for a long long time.
She trains 3 times a day unlike others.
NOTE: The Ethiopian federation wanted to take the dominance from Kenya when it comes to steeplechase. They purposely directed some athlets to go down that road but that was never ging to work for Ayana. Not every decision is made by the athet her/him self in ethiopia. The federation has always had a huge say
Ignore the forum, they accuse anyone who runs faster than them a doper, or anyone who beats the Americans. Well done Ayana!
Her numbers are suspicious, but not nearly as suspicious as Mo becoming unbeatable at the 5 and 10 late in his career but never attempting a serious time trial.
Mo has Alberto and Jama. Ayana has Jos.
