I think the Penn Relays is an awesome track and field event. But what really gets me is that they let ANY sprint relay into the meet. We're sending a guys 4x1 (college level mind you) that consists of 4 guys that can't even crack 11 seconds for 100m. And our girls sprints are even more pathetic. A lot of track programs are carried by the distance program (like ours) and they can't race in the meet because the standards are so fast. So the kids who suck and think that starts and handoffs is a "workout" get to run at the best meet in the country while the hard workers (and point scorers at conference) have to stay at home. It's ridiculous. I wish tougher standards were put on the sprint relays so that this wouldn't happen. I mean come on, a girls 4x4 that runs 4:10 is allowed to compete, but a guy that runs a 9:30 steeplechase is not? That's BS.
