I have heard the site letsrun mentioned a lot before and I was hoping one of you could help me out with my goals for this XC and track season. So far I've been running with my team and doing pretty well (sometimes I beat them!) and I've been looking to place well at districts. The winning time is usually very low 16s for 5k. Last December, I ran a 5k in 18:08 while preparing for 8th grade track. I really want to run well at districts so I've upped my mileage and I can run 50 or more mpw pretty easy with 2 workouts and a long run.
PRs 8th grade
5k - 18:08
1600 - 5:03
800 - 2:16
My goals are:
5K - 16:5x
1600 - 4:40
800 - 2:0x
I want to determine if I'm doing the right thing, so here's my schedule for the last few weeks.
Mon - 10 miles
Tues - 3 up, 8x800 averaged 2:45 w/ 2 min rest, 3 down + 4 mile pm run
Weds - 10 miles
Thurs - 3 mile tempo in 17:25
Fri - 10 miles
Sat - 6 miles with team up and down hills
Total: 53
Is this good? I'm concerned because I want to run my first race in the 17s and I hope as I cut for XC I'll get faster but I'm kind of new to the sport and just following my coach's senior training plan because I wanted to get faster. Is this a good thing?
