So I have developed a new way of training for the 800m. Maybe someone has already tried something similar? Or has an opinion about it? Anyways, it's something like this:
I have noticed that there is an inherent conflict in 800m-training: you can't get enough fast running in on the one side because the 800m-runner doesn't benefit as much from slower stuff as longer distance runners, so you are forced to run fast A LOT, but on the other hand, it beats you up very quickly so recovery and injury avoidance is the other side of the story. To solve this problem I have the idea to work with short cycles wich give you the opportunity to recover after every three days and to do more specific, fast work as well. Example of such a cycle:
Day 1: am: Intervals (800m-tempo) / pm: 10km
Day 2: am: Weight training / pm: 10km
Day 3: am: Sprinting or intervals / pm: 10km
Day 4: REST
Are there people who do it this way? Is there any benefit to gain from this system? Let me know what you think.
