Speaking from my experiences as a former college athlete and what I have discussed with others I would say yes. It's always easier to run with company, particularly when they are faster. Unless you have been running for a long time as someone previously mentioned or you are just tough as nails it can be difficult to carry the same pace solo as you would with a training partner.I would not read too far into one off day in training either.
