I'm pretty sure I am dealing with sesamoiditis in the medial sesamoid of my left toe. For the past week or so, the area where I believe that sesamoid is has been very tender to touch. The first few days I noticed it, it was pretty painful to run, but the pain wasn't consistent. For the past week, it has felt somewhat better running. I haven't made any modifications to shoes or training. For most of the past week though, the pain has only been annoying or not noticeable when running. I've felt it when walking around barefoot and my foot has been pretty painful first thing in the morning. Bending the toe up or outwards will cause various levels of pain in the sesamoid area depending on how irritated it is that day. I also feel some tightness/ stiffness in my big toe when doing this but no pain.
For no reason whatsoever, the area was super sore this morning...hard to walk. However, I decided to run because it typically loosens up some and feels better in shoes. Today, though, I noticed the pain persisted throughout the whole run in the sesamoid area.
Before today, I wasn't really too worried about the pain because it wasn't getting any worse or affecting my running for the most part. Hopefully, it will feel better tomorrow, but I'm a little afraid that sesamoiditis can turn into a stress fracture. Could that be why it felt so much worse today or do you just think it was more irritated today for some reason? Any tips on treating sesamoiditis?
