Hate it when I see posts like "yeah just ran a mile! #working" and it's a pic of their butt and the mile time say 11:04.
Facts:
1. Women have it 100's of times easier to build a profile on Instagram compared to men. The next time "feminists" complain about it being a man's world, point out how much easier it is to be a success on Instagram when you're a woman.
2. Most of these fitness models or blogger types that you point out come from a place of wealth and/or support. 99% of them either already have family money, or they get to stay at home and live a simulated elite life while their hubby keeps them supported. They have a lot of time and don't need the money.
3. They hardly make any money. But this is changing fast. When the number of followers was lower overall and more spread out, sponsored posts would only be compensated with $50-$100, and this would rarely be paid for in cash. Compensation would usually take the form of socks, protein bars, or whatever other random product would be behind sponsoring the posts. This is changing now that there are fitness instagrammers with followers in the 100k's or millions. Now they set the price, and this is getting to be upwards of $5-10k.

Yeah, I follow a lot of "fitness models" on instagram and they are posting stuff all day. Anyone who has been around an instagram "model" knows that it takes a mini photo shoot to actual get the pic they like. Are these girls making money? Because they don't seem to do anything but travel, gym, and take pics
Yes, but perhaps not in the way you think. And when you see these hot Instagram models with their selfies from a Dubai skyscraper, have a think about what they likely just did to pay for it.
http://www.atlnightspots.com/instagram-models-pissed-dubai/Wow, that article looks really credible. It also said that "most" Instagram models do this. Well I guess it's case-closed.

Well writers for that site (and others) did find it disturbingly easy to get random instagram models to agree to fly out to Dubai to be pissed and sh** on by fake billionaire sheiks.
I call BS. Proof of just ONE model doing this, with an Insta account?
Maybe a very very very small number do this.
I equate that article to Trump saying millions voted illegally.

I don't approve of shaming the girls they tricked into agreeing to this, but it's a fact that they succeeded. Real girls with real Instagram accounts agreed to be flown out to Dubai and it was made clear what was expected of them.
Maybe it's a tiny percentage, I don't know. Perhaps you're being naieve.
Here is an interesting article.
Tagyoursponsor.com is a pretty interesting spot.
I don't think selling sex is the feminist aim. Women have always been viewed as sexually desirable, the feminist goals deal more with jobs that require university degrees.
So are you saying they're looking for a Sugar Daddy and/or offering or open to offering services as described in the Fox News article?
Yes, they are absolutely getting paid. I started reading about Instagram marketing a few months ago (I work in marketing) and decided to make an account to see how fast I could grow it. Disclosure: I am a moderately attractive girl, but I don't have any bikini pictures ect. on my profile.
I've grown it to over 25k in the the past 5 months. I'm sure being a 'hot girl' plays a huge factor, but people really underestimate how much learning about the algorithms, using the right hashtags ect. can grow an account. I have replicated this on pictures of men, dogs, landscapes... you can still get big numbers of likes and comments.
My account is still small but I can pull in a couple hundred bucks a product post by reaching out to the right companies. Those hot girls that are always in different places are getting free airfare, hotels, meals, excursions and payment on top of that.

It is the ONLY factor.
There are a lot of niches out there besides fitness. A 50-60 year old home gardener can make money promoting gardening products if they can grow an engaged audience. Some companies value engagement and good targeting over lots of off-topic followers .

OP - two things:
1) curious why you follow them? Just to ogle? I freely admit to (on a rare occasion) click on a racy pic for my SI Swimsuit issue momentary fix, but I could never imagine following/ogling/being-totally-annoyed-by-the-posts-of any of them
2) Are you the same kind of guy who was asking if "bloggers" were making money blogging 5-10yrs ago. Of course plenty of them are (were)...
My commentary on the question:
Yes, many IG models are making some, if not decent income from it. It depends on how legit of an "influencer" they are and that is usually tied to past sponsorship performance and then their overall followers, likes, post (retweet/repost) count as metrics for the money earned. They usually charge a base, negotiated rate per-post and then get commission based on likes/etc.
This is incredibly simple and incredibly obvious as to why these people exist. It's a massive part of marketing/advertising now and something that most brands are involved with in some fashion. Plus, if there wasnt a financial gain to be had either through IG or through opportunities it then creates, do you think they'd do it?
You mean to tell me I've been doing this all wrong??? (posting on an anonymous board) Shoot...I could have been a millionaire by now...ðŸ˜
Troll post. We all know attractive women don't visit the letsrun boards, let alone post on here.
I had a close friend in high school that I had a huge crush on but was too lame to ever do anything. She turned into a real real goddess in her 20s. She started one of those fitness model instagrams, and I gladly started following, thinking I'd found the holy grail. Then I started connecting the dots of her hashtags and found out she was doing a lot of nude modeling, and has a patreon where she posts nudes as well. I became a supporter there and have a whole cache of her nudes. She's making several thousand dollars a month from that site alone without ever even actively promoting it. Its all people who read between the lines and find it. And so far all of her pics from patreon are self shot in a decent home studio. She doesn't even have to leave the house. Just take a few nudes and post a couple a month. She's probably a millionaire by now.
Pics?

No. They're looking to grow their IG profile so that they can generate an income purely from their visibility on there. Nothing to do with sex, but they're not naive enough to not know that sex sells, which was why I mentioned the first point. Although I'm sure that prostitutes also use IG to build their client base, but these aren't the women I'm talking about.
And true about feminists always being selective on which data to cry victim over. Feminists are political first and about equality second, they're fully in support of sexual exploitation when it suits their agenda.
