400 or 800 for me ?

Your 400 is definitely better, but I think, like most 400/800 guys that your 400 times will start to plateau before your 800 times. You're definitely undertrained on the endurance side of the spectrum, as indicated by your 1500 time. Look up how to train for the 400/800, especially when it comes to building your aerobic base, and go from there. Also, I would gradually training more days/week, and adding lifting and hills.

Those events are right next to each other. You do not have to choose. You can be great at both.

I train like 800m runner since 2 years...

For example, i done 5x1k or 3x600m or 12x400m and never start, hills or speed..

The next year, i want do 47'6 is it possible ?

The stride length doesn't matter really.

You should start lifting and doing hills. To run 47.6 you'd probably need 22.5 or better, so focus on the 800. Your 1500m time is not good, but that fact that you did one shows that you probably feel more like a mid distance runner than a sprinter. That actually matters.

With your times in 400 and 800, you should be around 4:05 for 1500, which is not bad. The workouts you are doing are definitely 800 workouts. With proper endurance training, you could run 48.5, 1:50, 3:50. That is very good.

I suggest long intervals at current 1500m pace (3x1000m in 2:50, 6min recovery), and tempo runs of 4km at 3:30/km. These will get faster as your endurance improves. Ultimately, you should be able to do 3x1000 in 2:40 and the 4km tempo at 3:10/km. (I used metric since it seems you are from Europe)

You are just an underdeveloped 800m runner. You can certainly go sub 48 if you add hill sprints and weights to your program. Also, like another poster said, your 1500m is a huuuge drop off. Add in some quality aerobic work and more training days. You can be both good at the 400m and 800m, but I think your upside is greater in the 800m

Mm, under trained yes... I do for example 5x1000m in 3"10 with 3mins recovery..

Or 3x600 with 6 recovery in 1"35-1"32-1"27...

But, you think that i will never go under 47 for 400 ?

Well you're only 18 years old so you may go under 47, but that is a big drop in time.

And do you do any easy or uptempo mileage? Like actual distance runs?

You are 400. Start doing real speedwork and you will improve.

You can be good at both so why do you want to choose just one? Regarding your future, your best event will be the one you train the best for.

800m is essentially an extended sprint these days so work on your speed and speed endurance.

At your age there is no need to choose. You aren't fast enough or big enough to be a great 400 runner, but you have enough speed to be a good 800 runner. Your 400 is better than your 200.

Don't listen to all those who want to send you tot he weight room. No one runs fast in a weight room. But they always end up pooching their running technique.

Work on running and efficient technique. Don't bench yourself out of the event. Understand that speed is what will get you there and the weight room is for 60m runners. SO block speed and power is unnecessary. Speed endurance is what you want. Hill work is great as part of an endurance workout.

Try to go old school. Google Percy Cerutty and learn about fitness. Try to run yourself to fitness, not lift yourself to strength. There are many forms of strength.

I vote 800, for what it's worth, and your best bet is to be a speed 800 guy who doesn't train for the same amount of miles that other 800 guys do.

You can never be an very good to elite 400m runner (ie: sub 46) without dropping at least a second, if not more off of your 200.

How? Running up hill is slower, and running downhill changes your technique. So get on a proper program. You seem talented enough to attract a coach or group somewhere.
