He wasn't in the lead at the 400m mark. I wonder if he ran the same way he did in the Olympics; near the front and then kick it home. Yes, I know, not typical for an 800 race.

It seems like he's gone backwards since joining NYAC. Didn't he run sub 4 the summer after graduating high school? Who has details about his training and the designed plan by his coaches for long term growth?

I hope that I will be pleasantly surprised in the coming years with a strong improvement curve.

And today added a silver in the 5000

I believe he is targeting the 2024 Olympics. He ran the 3:57 last summer while a part of NYAC

Hope this kid runs the real olympics soon. He's got an enough talent to beat out most of the field right now.

Why is this guy in the Paralympics? Isn't that reserved for people with a verified physical disability?

I hope you mean "gone backwards athletically" as the profile of him and his coach that we had up on the site last week was great and it seems that things are going great on that front.

I would agree that his athletic results seem to be slower this year. 4:11 mile at Penn Relays, 4:04 indoors. But it should be remembered that his 3:57 mile last year kind of came out nowhere.

Last year earlier in the year, he ran like 1:50 for 800 and 14:33 for 5000 at Penn and then popped a 3:57 mile when he got in a race with the pros. This year, he did run a big 5000 pr at Mt Sac (14:09).

The fact of the matter is you've expectations a little high for him. There are tons of high school stars - most - that never make the Olympics. And you are comparing him to Chelimo?

The athlete classification system is widely debated by the Paralympic community. Class-20 was created between 2002-2003 for athletes with an IQ below 75 when the qualifying circumstance occurred prior to the individuals 18th birthday.

While I would like to see inclusion and acceptance for all people, I believe the athlete should be required to chose participation in either the Olympics or Paralympics, and not be eligible for both.

Special Olympics grew from a camp funded by the Shriver- Kennedy family. They do hold worldwide championships but are not considered part of the Olympic/ Paralympic movement. I find most of the Special Olympic activities in the US are conducted as a "field day" without any true competitive element.

Special Olympics is more about the fun and participation.

Paraolympics is more serious and about competition.

Unfortunately I did not come across the profile posted that you referenced, but I will be sure to read it. Yes, I was purely referring to regression from an athletic perspective.

I am just supportive. Do I expect him to beat Paul Chelimo? No. But I would love to see him be in the finals at the trials with some of his American born peers. Low 8:40's in high school puts him in a very elite crowd.

I love this site, but why do you seem to want to pick fights whenever you can?

I've never been one to bash this site, or you and your brother. Just seems peculiar that you'd want to instigate something with a visitor who attempts to contribute to the site. I may never understand you, but I do appreciate your site.

People's expectations of him are not too high. You act is if just because his 3:57 was unexpected, it may as well not have happened. The truth is, he is a 3:57 miler and the times he's running this year aren't good for a runner of that quality. Maybe to your point though, he is young and still developing. Not every year is filled with personal bests and this is certainly a development year filled with the toughest training he's experienced this far.
