steph garcia has a limp when she runs. is it just me?

Steph has always run with that little hitch. It appears the hurdles are the only issue. She will never be confused for Emma, but I watched at Pre Classic and she ran 9:25; she fell apart last lap, but sort of seems she always does. Sacramento was several weeks later, but she was significantly slowing at hurdles and coming to almost a complete stop at water barriers. It was unreal. Not sure if steeple days are over, but a pretty good flat runner so far since Sacramento with a good 3k win and a mile finishing right behind Kate Grace.

She changed coaches and got too in her head about technique. Needs to be more Kenyan on this.

The reason for her struggles over the hurdles is that she tried to change her technique this year, but she admitted to us after the race that she's still not totally confident in it. Hesitating before a barrier is not something you want to do in the steeple, but if you don't trust your form, you hesitate, which leads to bad hurdles and a fall like the one she suffered in Sacramento.

Garcia's interview may have been the best one I conducted at USAs yesterday. She very candidly discussed the problem in a way that most pros would be unwilling to. Props to her.

Agreed. No way she and/or her coach aren't aware of it. Maybe she has some injury history or structural imbalance that has resulted in this issue, but I'm sure her coach and/or trainer would have identified and been working on it if that were the case. I suppose if it's just the way she runs and there are no related problems, no reason to try to change things.

Glad someone else noticed this. I have always marveled how she can run at such a high level and so hard on the turns with an obvious imbalance. And she has had, I think, only one significant injury? Amazing.

According to her interview with JG (above), you are a day late and a dollar short -- she has already made changes. The changes obviously didn't work, so now the question is whether she can undo them.
