I just back back from my long run. Did some sprints after just because I felt like it. When I get back from a long run, I'm never usually hungry straight away? I like to leave it an hour, sometimes two, before I eat. Is this too long? Will I break down a lot of muscle leaving it so long after a run to eat? I heard somewhere you're supposed to eat a protein rich meal within 20 minutes of working out, and if you leave it much longer- it's detrimental to muscle maintainence.
I might not nourish straight away but I always hydrate (with electrolytes) with a sports drink or coconut water after a long run straight away.
I find it hard to maintain/gain muscle as it is so the last thing I want to do is lose muscle weight. I am at racing weight so if I drop any lower or lose any more muscle I will get ill like in the past.
