Lots of these races have had rabbits. More interesting is they share the same agent for this chase.

Blankenship is in the race. Maybe he charges to the front early and makes a martyr of himself for the cause.

No. It's my understanding that you have to have finished in the top eight of the U.S. Championship to be eligible and Blankenship was 12th or so.

This is incorrect. The top 8 are the only athletes who can chase qualifiers.

Anyone who has a qualifier is eligible for the team in the rank order of finish at the Trials. Blankenship, at the moment, is the 3rd finisher amongst the qualifiers.

If I'm correct, ENGELS will travel to London in the event that Andrews does not hit the standard. In this case it may be in Engels best interest to slow the pace down in Portland to keep it over 3:36.

You are not correct. Engels does not have the standard either. Engels will be eligible if he gets the standard and Andrews doesn't.

There were pacers at Stanford so I don't know why they wouldn't have them in Portland as well.

I think Blankenship will be going for the win. I wouldn't expect him to slow the race down.

They may not get the standard but I don't think it will be a slow sit and kick fest.

el al is the abbreviation for El Alamein, site of a desperate battle much like the qualification chase will be.

A list of people who still have a shot to go to worlds. The higher on the list the more likely, lower people on this list need everyone above them to miss the standard

If none of the above run 3:36 or faster, Ben Blankenship goes to worlds. I'm confused as to why Jordan, Sam, and Josh aren't in this race. Presumably, they will race elsewhere [possibly if no one here achieves the standard]

What's up with Alexander? Assuming he's been injured. Didn't he win this last year with a pretty good time?

Injured for a long time. Just now back.

If they hold 2:52 pace the next 300 it's a 3:35. I really wish it weren't paced because it would be more interesting but I'm excited to watch it regardless. I picked Gregorek in the poll when I thought there was going to be more strategy involved but now I am switching to Engels after finding out about the pace setter. I think Engels can hang with the pace better than the rest.

Is it possible that lomong doesn't have it in him anymore to run 1200m in 2:52?

If good Merber shows up he could win it

If bad Merber shows up he'll run 3:43
