It's a disease as well as underlying mental health issues. Sure, jail time is necessary for certain crimes but if you aren't trolling then clearly you don't see the big picture.
This. Anyways, I used to be like the OP--intolerant, really tough on crime, etc. I was like that up until HS, but then, because I got a script of Vicodin due to a bad illness, I ended up being an addict myself. I don't regret it, since it made me a lot more empathetic person in general. But addiction really does take over your entire life. I've wasted so many years due to it.
