We just received the following press release.
Probenecid is a diuretic of sorts. Let me guess - Gil ingested this through tainted fish as the fish in question was taking the meds for weight loss.
This is stupid. If they aren't going to nail him because the amount was too low, then why release the positive in the first place?
Wow, is USADA getting soft on supposed unintentional doping?
How do you "accidentally" ingest probenecid?
There was some logic behind the finding with Wilson but how do you ingest the prescription drug probenecid? The fact that it was found to be a small amount in the bloodstream doesn't tell us how it got there in the first place.
Did he have gout? Even Wiki says athletes use it as a masking agent.
The arbitrators determined that he was not a Russian

+1
This is the worst direction for the doping positives to go. First they started giving out reduced sentences to everyone for "contaminated supplements".
Now there are these "no fault" positives popping up. No fault, but we'll ruin your career by labeling you as a doper. Just horrible.
So it's "no fault" from an "independent arbitrator" for a cover-up ("masking") drug. But Russians (who finish well back in pack) have state-sponsored doping.
Looks like he mis-timed something, and had expected it to clear, hence the low concentration.
Biological half-life 2-6 hours (dose: 0.5-1 g)
probenecid is such a p!ss-weak diuretic that it has virtually 0 masking properties
( the MO is supposed to be that an increased diuresis will expel proper dope from your system quicker giving you a shot at -ve testing for proper dope )
the other use woud be to reduce weight by dehydration to make limit as in boxing/kung fu/weightlifting which is it's only viable doping use
seeing as runners/throwers have no weight limits to make the use of probenecid in athletics is worthless
wada really need to throw some of that rubbish off their prohibited lists or better make them more sports specific like B-blockers illegal in golf ( might calm nerves/reduce any tremor whilst putting ) but not "clock" sports
First post of ventolin^3's career that isn't absolute garbage.

Exactly. Just like A. W. got away with her poor timing. USADA "tough" to its runners as per usual.
Absolutely agree.

Ventolin's post shows once again that specialists are very knowledgeable within their own areas but often useless outside them.
Still, drugs that help drop weight would be useful to runners who can thereby increase their power to weight ratio.

That's at least three so far: Wilson, Roberts, and Grunewald.
How could this be accidentally ingested?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probenecid
There has to be a legitimate explanation for accidental ingestion to be credible. With Wilson, apparently there actually can be meat tainted with Zeranol and it wouldn't make any sense for her to take it as a PED anyway, so I can accept that it was accidental.
With Probenecid, it apparently can be used as a masking agent so there is a reason for dopers to take it. There's no explanation for how ingestion could be accidental. Maybe it was a tainted supplement, but without a better explanation, they shouldn't be letting people off the hook.
These reports are so vague it's insane. It doesn't explain in any way how or in what context the substance was ingested, especially given that they stated that it was ingested unintentionally.
The arbitration summary PDF that's posted along with the USADA release lists Alex Salazar as a witness for Gil Roberts. That seems weird.
Is Roberts still with John Smith and HSI?
Wilson and/or her people say that she was warned in no uncertain terms not to compete following her Feb. 11 positive, yet Roberts competed at USATF, after his Mar. 24 positive but before the USADA announcement on June 26.
Why wad one athlete forbidden from competing, but another allowed to compete? Was Roberts given some sort of secret okay in time for the USATF meet, or what?
