I always hear the term "9:30 guys" thrown around to denote guys that although good in high school, were able to harness their true potential in college. It's used by people like Mark Wetmore and a lot on these boards. Why is 9:30 the "magic number" that denotes you have potential? What about 9:40 guys?
9:40 guys are defective.

Agreed. If you're under 9:20, you averaged "sixty-something" per lap. Even if it was just 69.9, most college coaches will figure you can help the program.
Sub 9:20 could also mean 50 something per lap.
Daniel Komen was sub 9:20 and he was 50 something per lap.
