Seriously. That guy sacrificed himself to prove that the "untouchable" Centro is just another guy.
Good on him for actually trying to make this a race, instead of a 400m sprint after a 1100m jog!

You are right. I was hard on Ben B.immediately after 2016 Olympic 1500m final. He was one of the slower 800m guys in the race. I thought passing in 2:15+ for 800m was a disadvantage for him then. Ben tried today. He wasn't just along for the ride today.

He made it a 900m jog, a 400m sprint, then a 200m jog

That's called sacrificing yourself for the greater good. The sport doesn't need to see another title go into the pocket of someone under a drug investigation.
If you have the opportunity to inspire the other runners in the field to do something GREAT, then you have to do it.
The real hero in my mind was Engels. A collegian took the lead with 100 to go on the Olympic champ. He could have easily run for third and gotten third. He went it for it big time and it cost him a spot on the team but that's the mindset we need.
Engels and Blankenship but have guts.
I think Engels ran stupid, went to early, had he waited to be all out he makes the team. Big balls go home. Run smart.
So is this the best Blankenship's got? Guts?
I was really hoping for something better than JMac 2.0.
Sad.
One's man's hero is another man's idiot. Blankenship has all the speed he needs in this type race to make this team, and yet in his own head he decided it was smart to run all out from 600M. Yeah, that worked great! He walked in. Why not just go when the race goes and race smart. You can't tell me he can't out kick Johnny G.

Where's the glory in out-kicking Johnny G? Lot's of people could do that. But only Ben Blankenship had the guts to take off soon enough to f*ck Centro's sh*t up.
I sure hope BB's got a guts incentive in his contract. If he doesn't, maybe the "run like a man" gang at LRC could start a gofundme to make up for the bonu$ he's going to lose for not making the team.

The mindset of running outside of your abilities and losing? Lol OK coach.
You're praising this knob for running dumb? It doesn't work that way.
Seriously...? wrote:

Exactly my thought .... Ben gots balls but he ain't got no brains

Guts? As far as I could tell, they weren't handing out trips to London to the runner with the most guts, only the first 3 across the lines. But yeah, ok, he has the most guts and the biggest balls, hope he has fun playing with them all summer while Andrews, Centro, and Johnny G are representing our country at the World Champs.
My guess is the Blankenship realized the pace was slow and figured no one could beat Centro. I am sure it was jacking with his head knowing Andrews and Murphy were right behind him. I'd have to believe he thought it best not to let it come down to a 150 with those two dudes. Had he known murphy was frieed i doubt he woukd have went thaf hrd fhat early.

Exactly.
No athlete is going to win them all.
This meet, WC & Oly years are about if you aren't going to win -- Make The Team.
Making the team is probably a big pro bonus, running' dumb and staying home is nothing to brag about.
Those not in position to be on team, now, will be kicking themselves the rest of today and probably drunk at Oiselle party tonight, hitting on the 3 single Oiselle women.

I'm with you, bro. My first paragraph was sarcasm. I was trying to what a response to your eminently sensible post would look like. But you knew that.

I would love to start a gofundme for Ben, just to buy that man drinks. Had he not made a move, we would be watching Centro parade around like a king after another snoozefest race.
Instead we get to see Centro pouting in front of the camera without getting interviewed.
Daaang harsh thread! A lot of armchair miler buffoons here.

Excellent. Someone has to do right by Big Ben. Nike sure isn't going to.
So, are you going to follow BB's example, and sacrifice for the greater good? Or are you just another LRC troll proving that talk is cheap?
Blankenship jumps a fence a few years ago to avoid media.
Rupp walks through the mix zone.
Now blankenship shoots his load early, loses and is a hero?
No he's just a guy who loses.
