Keep in mind that the fact that a week is 7 days does not mean that it is necessarily best to train on a 7 day cycle. Personally, I like to do a long run every 10 days.
Great advice. I did 9 day cycles for a while and that worked really well for me. On a macro level, I would do a 3 x 9-day segment that was basically a month:
1st Cycle: Shorter Intervals (50-150m) - Easy - Easy - Medium Intervals (600m-800m) - Easy - Easy - Long Intervals (2-3 miles)
2nd Cycle: Shorter Intervals (200-300m) - Easy - Easy - Medium Intervals (1000m-1200m) - Easy - Easy - Long Intervals (4-6 miles)
3rd Cycle: Shorter Intervals (400-600m) - Easy - Easy - Medium Intervals (1600m-2000m) - Easy - Easy - Long Run (16-24 MIles)
Also sort of important to point out that when I do this, I don't actually measure out the intervals in distance, more like timed efforts. So when I say 600-800m repeats, I'm really doing like 105-150 second reps.
