How much do spikes and blocks play into 100 meter time-wise. Would using them save off about 0.3-0.5 seconds off times?

spikes and a good track about .15, and blocks, used properly about .25?? Or is that too generous.

Actually for many high school kids NOT using blocks might save 0.5 seconds!
haham true, but it has to make a difference if used properly, why else would pros use them. But does 0.5 sound reasonable for spikes and blocks.

Spikes, yes. Some of the top end spikes eg adidas prime variants or the Nike superfly are worth that for just 100m alone compared with flats. Blocks for a straight 100m but are slower than a running start for obvious reasons.

No. Especially if you self-timed this, you will lose more time in a real race for reaction time.
so what do you think...

I think you timed yourself for 100m after practice one day and now generously overestimate what you can do in a real race.
Sophomore in hs. Ran 11.13, second best was 11.16. I ran those in flats. I was always the last ones out of blocks. Coach wants me to get better at them, he says they're slowing me down. And im thinking about buying spikes. I work part time so to me a $100 means a lot. If I'm able to drop ~0.15 seconds just buy changing from flats, I'd do it. But if it doesn't mean much, I dont see the point in them. But im pretty sure they matter. You seem reasonable, How much do you think learning proper blocks and getting spikes effect my time.
i think i can go in the 10 range, not super fat, but im happy.
Spikes gives you more than .15 more like half a second. And blocks can give you like .1-.2 depending on your height and build

If $100 is a lot for you, then buy some old spikes on ebay. Shouldn't cost you more than $20 bucks.
it looks like its worth the investment, ill probably go for the best quality
Im 5'11, around 178. you could see my abs in shitty lighting without flexing.
0.5 for spikes?
Yes .5 for spikes dude!!!!!! It's 2017 scientists have spent years since the first olympics improving spikes performance.
