I think I am hot stuff because I acknowledge that another guy is going to be to good for me to compete with when he turns 40 in a few months?

If you have been reading the post, you would have seen by now that you are incorrect as he is elibable Jan 1st of the year he turns 40. Now STFU you whiny little b1tch.

Well, those are the facts regardless of his age. The issue isn't that he gets to train more than you, the issue is that he isn't 40 so shouldn't be in your age category for a few months. When he moves up, complaining about his lifestyle doesn't seem overly reasonable.
At that point, we just need to accept that he is better than us (and basically every other masters runner in the country except a handful (Castille, Clint Wells, Meb, Lagat, a couple of others maybe) and delude ourselves into feeling better about by focusing on the security that comes with full time, gainful employment.
Good point. I'll never be able to run a 14 min 5k, job or no job.
Like I previously stated, he's taking money from other legitimate runners.

Interesting, except none of that is correct. First off, people are guessing about what the IAAF rules are, but after taking a few minutes to research it, you will see that those guesses are not quite right. If you look a the IAAF Competition Rules, under Rule 141 (link below), the Under 18 and Under 20 age categories use birth year for the cut of, but masters athletes use their birthday (and the age threshold is 35 under IAAF rules, not the 40 commonly used in road races here in the US). You will note that the IAAF rules defer to the World Masters Association rules, which apply the same "35 years old/date of birth" standard. In any event, these races aren't required to follow IAAF or WMA rules, so those rules are really just generally informative, not mandates.
Secondly, I am not whining at all. The guy is a talent. Good for him. But he has also shown poor character if he is indeed 39. When he hits 40, he deserves to get all the cash he can to the extent it is designated for those 40 and over.

Agreed. He's cheating. Weak on his part. I can't say for sure, but I've never heard that you're a masters runner at the beginning of the calendar year in which you turn 40. I'm not sure I totally agree with Obese America, but we're someone to shove him into a lamppost on a turn on the course, it wouldn't cause me to lose any sleep.
Wow! Advocating violence because of this?
That's sad.
Not advocating violence, just making a joke. If you read the thread you will see that one person implied that some vigilantism might be a good idea. I said I wouldn't go that far, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I then noted how it was an empty threat. Besides, distance runner on distance runner violence is like a slap fight - it is pretty hard for anyone to really get hurt.
Really?????! wrote:

Definitely not cool.
Soon the rules for age of consent, driving and alcohol consumption will have a 6 month buffer.
If true, this is lame, and ideally the races in question would go after him to recoup the prize money.

Oh, please. Quit clutching your pearls.

At that point, he will deserve every penny he earns.
No he will not because there should absolutely be no age or sex categories regarding prizes in a sport like running where performance can me measured so objectively.
Imagine a company where bonuses are continually, and openly given to someone who performs less well than their co workers but they only get those bonuses on the basis of their age or sex. There would be a riot but that is what is happening in the sport of distance running where many good runners are not being paid their fair dues by race organizers because of the inherent ageism and sexism in the sport. It's not right and there should be laws against this prejudice.

I think you need to consult a dictionary....
This might be one of the dumbest threads in letsrun history. The OP pointed out a runner who is clearly cheating and stealing money at races. More than half the comments are defending the runner clearly breaking the rules. These defenders are either friends with the cheater or the dumbest people involved in running.
Had a chance to meet him several years ago. He used to live and train with Bob Kennedy back in the day. Very cool person. If he's going to be 40 in several months so be it

I once passed on the inside when I didn't really have room. Is LR going to have a witch hunt for me, too?
The interesting thing about these threads is that the runner in question seems to almost always end up posting anonymously on the thread using multiple unregistered usernames. Whoever this character is seems to be going a bit "Rossi-style", just attacking those who have made reasonable points.
And yes it is whack that he's claiming to be 40. But if this guy is seriously relying on masters only prize $, then that is pretty pathetic.

It's funny to contrast this with the marathon investigation threads full of pages and pages of outrage toward cheaters whose misdeeds in many cases affect precisely zero human beings.
Thanks for bringing this up OP. I personally know a runner who was bumped out of prize money this year because of this guy. I intend to contact a couple race directors I know, to see what they are willing to do about the cheating.Anything else I can do to help? I don't mind calling up his club/running store, and posting negatively about them social media if they are in fact aware that he is a cheat
