I'm thinking Either Hall or Tegankamp. Both have had many chances, and been favored, but can never come through when it counts. Any others?

When has Ryan Hall ever been favored to win an NCAA title?
Are you talking best current NCAA runner or best NCAA runner ever? There have been many athletes better than Teg and Hall who haven't won titles.

I don't think Luchini has ever won one. He ran a 1325, which is faster then both Hall and Teg. I wouldn't say Him or Hall or Teg haven't came through when it counts when talking bout titles though...because like another said none were ever favorites in the first place.

Isn't that the truth? I can think of 3:50, 13:15 and 27:30 athletes.
I may be wrong but I don't think lagat ever won a title. I remember lagat and sullivan both tripped in the 1500 and lassiter and jennings finished 1-2.

Yeah, and the year after that, Lassiter and Lagat started kicking too early and both got beat by Clyde Colenso.

Lagat won NCAA titles indoors in the mile and 3k in '98 (i think). He ran 3:55 and sub 8 only like 2 hrs apart.
My boy Louie.Q from Villanova Baby!
Lagat won the 5000 meter title.
Sorry. Should read: Lagat won the 1999 outdoor 5000m title as well as the 1999 indoor mile and 3k, as mentioned by a previous poster. He also anchored the winning DMR in 1998.
So, yeah, Lagat won a few.
I would guess it's probably one of the Kenyans from UTEP from the years they swept NCAA X-C.
There must be some top sprinters/hurdlers who never won a title, but I don't know they are, but maybe someone else does. Sorry this post is no help whatsoever.

Byers was national (AAU) 1500 champ as a freshman.
i don't think john trautmann of gtown ever won an NCAA title.
for a guy that ran 13:20 and 3:53 - kind of tough.
