I thought you meant a 5 minute mile with a 55-second lap along the way! And that's a much more interesting question, because there are probably quite a few 4:15 or 4:20 milers who could combine a 55 and a 4:05 1200. That's like 80, 85, 85, 55. Or start in 55 and jog it in.
I challenge all 4:15 or better milers (other than myself of course) to give it a shot.
I did a 10:08 2 mile with a 54 second last lap my Junior year in high school. It was a very hot day, around 100 degrees and dry, a weather condition called a "Santa Ana Condition" in Southern California. I had already run a 4:47 mile earlier in the meet and was sapped so I thought "*uck it" and ran as easy as possible while not letting the leaders get too far ahead. They were only about 130 yards ahead when I started my kick on the starting line into the last lap, passed them half way through the final curve, they didn't even know I was coming until I was almost on them. One of them came back and pipped me at the line.
