You probably know enough to do it- do you want someone else to do it just so you aren't in a dual role of dad and coach?
What about the HS XC coach? (I understand if that is not a good option)
Does it have to be a local coach who shows up at workouts?

Add miles gradually to the long and easy runs.
No need for a coach.

I have coached at high school and division 1 NCAA level. Also competed in high school NCAA division 1 and post collegiate level. If you are in Montgomery county area I can go into more detail

He's a very driven kid and he's achieved a great level of early success despite a very light workout schedule (as prescribed by his HS coach).

Seems to be doing well. Why not leave it alone and let his HS coach continue to develop him. Land your helicopter and slowly back away.
We don't know anything about the situation, so I think it is wrong to assume dad is a bad influence and a "helicopter".
What if kid was a violinist - doing well but untapped potential. Would we say that getting expert non-school input during the summer was wrong? No. same for math skills, acting, soccer skills, fine arts, etc.

lol you want to pay someone for training tips you can get for free?
High school kid in the summer? I'd scrap workouts all together.
Run easy and build mileage. Vary the distance and pace of the runs and do some strides and/or hill sprints after a run once or twice a week.

Summer is the time for recovery.
Don't need a specific or difficult regimen.
So you guys think when an old guy says "workout" that he is referring to the 1 or 2 hardest training days of the week. Let me translate for you: "workouts" means "training plan".

Generally a workout is a hard day or anything other than an easy steady run.
By that definition, I'd suggest no workouts.
If you say workout means training plan, then the plan would be to do easy runs all summer.
Maybe throw in a weekly long run in that workout starting in August.
