So I started indoor and outdoor track a year ago but was only running around a .58 400 time for outdoor and 1.45 600 time for indoor. This year for indoor however I broke out and ran a low 1:25 for the 600 and a .53 for a 400 relay split. After the indoor season I emphasized weight training to prepare for the outdoor season. In addition I began to eat much healthier than I ever had before and lost about 5-8 pounds as a result. However, I still was squatting and leg pressing more weight than I ever had before even with this loss of body weight.
When the outdoor season started, my training times in drills such as repeat 1200s and 400s were much faster than those I posted in the indoor season. I felt much stronger doing these workouts in outdoor than I ever did during the indoor season. I kept lifting and eating healthy as well, while also incorporating abs and plyos consistently into my workout routine.
Once I began to compete however my times were nowhere what I thought they could be. I only posted .55 for the 400 about a month after posting a .53 in indoor and then ran a .55 each time I ran the relay towards the end of the season. While my 800 times were: 2.09, 2.05, 2.04, 2.06, 2.05, 2.03, 2.03, 2.02 in that order.
I had the same coach for each season where he kept me on the same running workouts as indoor. During the indoor season I was training with one or two runners who were just as good as me and posted similar times as me in the 600 and 400, but for outdoor my coach had me train by myself mostly since there wasn't anyone else who could keep up with the workouts he had us doing.
I feel like the problem is that I lost a lot of pure speed somewhere between the indoor and outdoor season. My endurance is much better than what it was during indoor and so is my physical strength. I am asking for any advice of what I did wrong or what I should do because I can't seem to figure it out.
