One of my female high school athletes recently finished second in the league as a sophomore, with a 2:20 800. She's ranked 11th in the section (one level below state). In XC she finished 15th in the section, three spots away from state qualifying.
Her mother wants her to quit running, because "she's addicted" and her 3.33 GPA isn't good enough.
The student's counselor has had discussions with the mother trying to convince her to let her daughter continue to participate, and has set up a meeting for the four of us. I suspect it's my only chance to plead my case, and I want to be prepared with evidence to demonstrate that allowing the daughter to run is the best decision.
Any suggested links, magazines, or journals? I've run some searches, but there's a lot of fluff out there (vague references to "studies show" etc.). Any other suggestions for how to handle this situation?
