I am transitoning into more minimalist shoes, and am currently running in the precisions after years of loving the wave creations. I like both shoes a lot, and am also a fan of the nimbus and asics. Which racing flats or lightweight trainers should I get that would have somewhat of a similar feel as the mizunos's I like. DS Trainer, Spacer, Rcaer, Aero, Phantom, etc? If you have tried and liked or disliked a similar minimalist shoe, please give me a little info?
It is all personal preference. If you are currently liking the feel of mizuno's and the fit, then I would stick with one of their light weight models. Just go to their website and check them out. Try to find them in stores and try them on if possible, otherwise you will just have to do the good old online trial and error process. Many online sites have great return policies. Check Zappos.com!!!
Beware of EASTBAY. Take my word for it.
mizuno shoes are WAY too stiff to be considered minimal. that plastic wave system crap has got to go.
Eastbay is great. I have dealt with them many times and never have I had a single problem.
Try the Asics Gel-Flash DS.
The wave plate in the Precision is not made of hard plastic.

I started wearing Mizunos about a year ago and I wont switch to anything else. I used to wear the Asics Nimbus but for me it seemed to break down way to quick, so the Creation is what I started wearing. The weight is just right and the cushion for me is on. I am friends with a guy who owns one of the local running stores and he told me that the Mizuno Wave Technology was in his opinion thee best on the market. I guess its your own individual opinion but I give the Mizunos two thumbs up. I would check out roadrunner sports or your local running store for Mizuno Flats. I also just got the Aero and I do workouts in them as well as races works well for both.

You might wish to try the Asics Magic Racers; I am currently running in these after training previously in soft, cushy Nikes & Sauconys...My only gripe is the medial posting...Although a racing flat, the Magic Racers are still reasonably well cushioned IMHO...
If you're in cushioning shoes, stay clear of posted flats (like the DS trainer). I use similar trainers to you. My favourite flats are the Asics Tiger paw, and the Nike streak XC. The tiger paw is cushy, the streak XC is extremely light. Would recommend using a cushy flat first.
Good alternatives to the tiger paw are the asics gel magic and the mizuno spacer. I've tried both of these on and like the feel. The aero is heavier and has more heel. OK for tempo runs or as a trainer, but you should be wearing something lighter for speed work.
Conclusion: try out the tiger paw, the spacer, and the gel magic and get whichever one you like.
no doubt runners love them. as far as minimalists go, stiff shoes are the devil. shoes are made for the people who buy them. that being said, who buys more running shoes, small framed 100 mile a week runners or the 10-15 mile a week jogger who is trying to shed some weight? of course the joggers keep the companies in buisness so thats who the shoes are designed for. ill stick to my tiger paws. no plastic crap.
Just my 2 cents but yout choice of the Precision is a good one. I have run 4 marathons in the Phantoms, and yes it is a good shoe but by mile 22, and a week or 2 afterward I wished I had run in something with a bit more bulk.
If you train in "less shoes" often, like Trackhead and others suggest, you will adapt to them and get tough. The Creation is a pretty big shoe, maybe cosider training in the Wave Rider, racing in the Phantoms (5k to 1/2 marathon) and running marathons in the Precsion?

I train in the Spacer and I just love the shoe. I'm on the beem of 'less is more' I've been wearing the Spacer since February and running about 75 miles a week and I'm still wearing the same pair. They hold up pretty good and I haven't had one ache or pain either.
I wore the Asics Magic racer and I thought they were great until the Spacer. Now with the Magic Racer what I didn't like was all the pebbles that soles collected. When I ran I could feel the stones.
Do Asics flats have as much padding arround the heel as their training shoes do? I tried a pair of Landreth's and felt like my heel was wrapped in a big pillow. Also, does the Magic Racer have as much of a heel cup as the Tiger Paw? I had a pair of the white and orange Tiger Paws for a while and the heel seemed really structured for a racing flat.
guys, its not all about weight. its about midsole size and flexibility. the spacers and gel magic are way too stiff. sure its light but you arent working all the muscles you need to be.
this is along the same lines but a bit off topic. how durable is the outsole on the Puma H streets. I am interested in trying them out.
ya'know I really didn't notice if the heel was well cushioned or not. It did have a pretty good cup if remember correctly, for stability. I'm more of a fore foot striker and I enjoy the flexibilty of the Spacer. They are durable.
how can the spacer be flexible with that plastic crap in the middle? the revolver is a much better pick.
If you have liked the Wave Precisions and they work for your foot type (neutral), you may want to look at either the Wave Spacer and/or the Wave Aero. These are both considered neutral racing shoes. The Aero has a thicker midsole and might be a better option for longer races. The Spacer has a lower profile and may be better suited for shorter races. Hope that helps!
Yeah, I thought the same thing until I ran in it. I'm a fore foot striker, my heels do not touch the ground at all when I run. The shoe is great for me, the plastic ridge thing doesn't bother me at all.
Yes, I did try the Revolver and they hurt my feet as did the Aero and Brooks Racer ST. Go figure.
I just love the Spacer and before they "improve" it I'm going to stock up.
The Revolver has "plastic crap in the middle" as well; it's buried in the midsole. The Spacer is more flexible than the Revolver. In fact, the Revolver's forefoot is not very flexible at all.
