4x100 Podium Team DQd Despite Judge not being "100% sure" of a violation.

My 4x100 team ran their best race of the season today with a time which would have them seeded third going into the State Championships; however, the Zone 3 judge flagged them for a late handoff. I was In a good (not perfect) position, and it appeared to me that while the anchor leg had stepped outside the zone, the exchange occurred well within it.

I appealed; and the judge said that while he was confident in his decision, he could not be 100% sure there was a violation. Meet director and head referee meet, and DQ stands on the grounds that judgement calls cannot be appealed.

I have no doubt that they ruled by the letter of the law... but holy shit I am pissed right now. If you aren't 100% sure, then keep the damn flag down.

You are setting a poor example to your team. The official was in a better position than you so you can not claim your athlete was in the zone.

I had a kid cut off and elbowed forcing them to fall inside the lane. He got up and sprinted to third to qualify for state. He was DQ'd for stepping inside the rail.

I appealed that a runner who is impeded and forced off the track by rule is allowed to get back on the track and continue.

The decision stood. The turn judge agreed there was contact and forced out but "he didn't want to DQ the other runner."

Yup. That was the response I got.

I told him I didn't want the other runner DQ'd, I wanted my runner reinstated. Nope.

How did I set a poor example for my team? I appealed through the proper avenues. A poor example would have been to, what, yell at the judge? Maybe I am missing your point?

Yup. That was the response I got.

Dang. That is awful... and yet somehow, that made me feel slightly better. Sorry (& thanks), coach :-/

Was the judge certified? Or, was he just some parent volunteer?
