I divide it into a half thon and a full thon

Certainly not by 100 meters. That's ridiculousness. You need to do it by step. Each step should take no more than 1/3 of a second. YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION and make sure you do not exceed that amount!!!

Yes, certainly by 100m. I set my watch to beep every 34 seconds to keep me on pace.

0-13 just get through this on pace and very comfortable

13-16 pick up the pace a bit, make sure to address nutrition

16-20 time to start digging in

20-23 remain mindful of nutrition and fluids

23-26.2- throw everything left into the fire and charge to the finish.

13-18 PAIN

18-26.2 WALK

0-13 - Jog

13-16 - Gu and Gatorade to fuel up

16-19 - Seek out good place for bathroom stop

20 - #2 in the bushes, use sock to wipe

20-21 - Gingerly trot due to sore left knee

22-23 - Gingerly trot due to sore right knee

24-24.5 - First Aid Station

25-26 - Stretcher > Coroner's Exam Table

26.2 - Coffin

This is pretty much my strategy. It's much easier mentally to just kind of check out for the first half and occasionally check that you're on pace.

Aged 54

First 5k try to get into the right pace.

5k to 30k basically try to fall asleep running the same pace

30k to 35k run pretty hard

35k to 40k run as hard as posible

40k to finish hang on and give it everything no matter if you are dying or feeling ok.

Second half 4 seconds slower than first half

2.51 not exactly world class but I'll take it as a debut at 54

I like to think of it as an interval session: 1x26.2 miles at marathon pace.

This works, done it many times.

0 - 26 miles - easy

26.0 to 26.2 - just finish

The first 26 miles are easy. It's always the last 0.2 mile that I have trouble with..
