If it keeps him humble and working hard, good for him. But yes, you are right - talent is widely variable and the reason some people can win gold medals, while others can't make their college team.

However, durability is also an underrated "talent". If you don't get injured, you can put in the years of work to catch up to people naturally faster than you, but who are unable to train as much/hard.

If you outwork Mr. 4:30, you'll certainly be a lot closer in a few years time.

All human abilities are determined by genetics and running is no exception. Regardless of how hard you work, you will never stand out in any field, whether writing, music, or running unless you are born with exception genetics.

Yep...as Spock once said "each to his own gifts." The "haves" vs the "have nots." The "chumps" vs the "champs." The "homely" vs the "handsome." Hopefully, in the future science wil be able to correct the genetic deficiencies of the less gifted and create a more level playing field in the game of life 🙄
