Yes. Some people won't speak to you unless you can run certain times, or stop speaking to you when you go through a period of injury and can't race well.

Road race hobby joggers, no, they are in it 100% for the socializing and they don't care who runs a sub 30 5k or not, but they'll cheer anyone who gets close.
Track runners who try to actually run fast can be snobs, whether they are fast or not, and there's nothing wrong with that because they're trying to run fast, which is what running is for. You should want to go faster than other people.

This was very true on my poor D1 college "team."
