Just to follow up, I ran faster as a HS senior. State champion, one of the top HS runners in the country. I was All-American on a D1 T&F championship team, Olympic Trials qualifier, yada yada.
You have talent. 25mpw is sh*t for a HS distance runner. You gotta get up to 40-55mpw. The time commitment to run 40-55 mpw is nothing compared to the time a HS basketball or football player puts in. If you want to be a success at running then put the time in and run more. That's the secret.
HS runners with talent should run 50-55 out of season, run 40-45 in season. Taper down to 20-25 for district/regionals and state.
I've seen so many talented HS runners who squandered their talent. You can choose to be stupid and lazy in your training, or you can choose to make the most of your talent. Or you can play video games. it's up to you.
