Just came back from a first date and the girl asked me the dumbest running question

I've been asked "how far can you run until you get tired" and I must say that stumped me. So I guess your not alone.

Why would you even bring up that you run on a first date?

She is making conversation trying to show she has some interest in the things that interest you. A good sign she likes you.

The worst for me is my MIL. I recently registered for my fifth marathon since she's known me. "How long [in miles] will this one be?" Arrrggghhh...

She probably thinks you are stupid for not knowing or just a crap runner, why not just answer the question?

No I did not play other sports in college. T&F is a three season sport but I did play basketball as a kid. Tell a cute little story of how Billie-Joe-Jeff grabbed your shorts preventing you from scoring in 7th grade basketball. or something lighthearted like that.

Dating questions are not about absolutes they are about getting a dialogue going, exchanging insights about who you are and what kind of a person you are. Good communication is the key to good dating.

She basically asked if you have a BQ yet. So do you? She won't lay you unless you're sub 2:50 or something.

Apparently you did not complete your education.

It is actually an interesting question. The fact that you had to write so much about how hard it is to answers reflects that it is a good, thoughtful question. If your teammate asked you that question, would you be such an ass about it?

Frankly, you sound patronizing and mean. Go back and look at what you read. You aren't as important as you think, and your running is not as impressive as you think.

You aren't going to find anyone as nerdy as you of the opposite gender so quit being so judgmental. Treat all future dates with the same scorn and you will be forever lonely.

This. OP can blow off steam like with friends, but I think those were opportunities. Just elaborate. " I try to compete an historic distance really fast." (Everyone can relate to gym miles.)

I'm sure you've done long runs. You could say the longest you've run was 15 miles and talk about it in pleasant gentrified terms that the southern belles love, like peach tea on a breezy patio.

And then you can have the best of both worlds. You can fib and say you were this and that at baseball and basketball but that running is actually a three season sport with a lot of dedication, high level. Think McFly! That should impress her

For crying out loud it's an innocent question.

A hot Norwegian architecture student asked me that in college and I simply told her "my long training runs can be up to 15 miles on average but I ran 24 miles once on a lark.

Then we went back to my dorm and made love for 6 hours. Stamina for the win.

If that's truly the worst part of your date, then you have little to complain about.

She was showing an interest and making small talk.

Maybe she was testing you. Someone who is content, happy with themselves isn't going to get bent out of shape with such a question.

And don't be so quick to judge and call her an "idiot". I've had very intelligent people ask me similar questions before. Sorry, but it's a big world out there and knowing about running isn't always the first thing in everyone else's world.
