you notice that? I notice that in the local teams (college and HS) and even elite runners, like say Ryan Shay.

High-flab diet?
bigger does not mean flabby. I bet Ryan Shay has much stronger legs than most of them.
Not that I ever noticed, then again I never checked out the legs of the guys. Dude, you must have an interesting perspective on life.
Do you think American runners should start trying to get skinnier, maybe more developed legs? This is less weight you have to carry no?
What the African runners eat in one day is equivalent to one American meal. They have different diets as well. Most of the African runners don't ride in cars for everywhere they go. Perhaps if they have earned enough winnings, they have a car, but they don't grow up riding in a car like all of us Americans. I dunno, just the "fyi." Dathan Ritzenhein is pretty thin, as is Alan Culpepper..
check out the picture in TandF news a few issues ago w/ Ryan Hall Racing Lagat's bro in XC.
Hall's legs look like tree trunks next to his.
p.s. Ryan Hall is not flabby.
The answer to your question is the fourth word in your question.
a combination of genetics and training culture/dedication/methods.
Simple as that.
Not sure I would use the term "flabby" though.
Martin Rono was one of the greatest Kenyan cross runners.Ever seen John Ngugi, 3 x world cross champ. The mans legs, in his peak, were bigger than Ryan Shay. Moral of the story, I dont think leg size has anything to do with the reason US runners are not as deep at the world level as the Kenyans.
Trust me, if leg size alone was a key factor, there would be some awesome runners coming out of Nigeria, and the Ivory Coast as well.
Japanese runners legs , at least the male runners, are as big as most elite US runners.
there are awesome runners coming out of nigeria. they're called sprinters. also, ngugi's legs look nothing white boy legs. japanese also seem to be less flabby than americans. that said, who cares. the italian who won the olympic marathon had "american" legs.
No he didn't. Pull up a photo.
i wonder what the usual diet of a Kenyan runner is? this would be interesting to know.
