Anyone know where it is? Colorado, Mexico City, Kenya? How about the track records?

Highest in the US I thought was in Montana. Never been there just read it probably on here.
In the boone, nc area there is a cinder track that's at 5,000+ altitude I believe...
USAFA and NAU both have tracks at 7,000ft+. I am sure there are many that are higher - but not many good ones.
TFN Little Red Book has an Altitude of Selected Cities table. It does not specify that these cities have tracks; however, I know some of the top ones do.
La Paz 11, 909
Bogata 8675 ft.
Addis Ababa 7900 ft.
Mexico City 7546
Echo Summit 7382
Flagstaff 6913
Siestre 6726
Colo. Springs 6007
Cheyenne 6099
A sampling of some of the biggies.
alamosa Co 7500
I'm not sure of the name, but it may be just Breckenridge HS in Breckenridge which is ~9000ft.
U of Montana is actually one of the lower altitude schools in the NCAA XC Mtn. Region (lower 3000s).
If one was to look at just NCAA institutions, then I believe these schools would be the highest . . .
University of Wyoming - Laramie, Wyoming (7200 ft.)
Western State - Gunnison, Colorado
Adams State - Alamosa, Colorado
Air Force Academy - Colorado Springs, Colorado (I think the academy is over 7000 ft.)
well i know there is an indoor track in leadville colorado, somewhere in the ballpark of 11,000 ft, no joke there high school football stadium boasts as the "2 mile" stadium and has the elevation on the scores box at 11,000 something, not too impressive but there indoor track is 160 yards, basketball floor not wood but that hard plastic rubber or whatever, and i watched a kid go 4:50 on it, it was pretty crazy, as far as the highest track stadium thats worth a shit is probably in kenya or ethiopia, cause western track sucks ~8000ft, adams state has a good track but is only 7500, summit high school has a track at 9600, but no bleachers.....so who knows
Anybody know times that were run on these tracks? A friend of mine and I were talking about how high ElG, Lagat, Bekele types could still break 4min, 5min, 6min.
theres a track in the Sierra Nevada region in Spain at about 2400m - over 7000 ft. Its the spanish altitude research centre or something.
There is a dirt track at a school in Zhongdian, Yunnan Province, China at 10,500 feet altitude.

I watched a track meet in Quito Ecuador, where it is about 10,000 (they had 2 tracks there). A Peruvian guy I coached ran a marathon at 13,000. I'll try to get in touch and see if they have a track in his hometown (somewhere around 13,000)
The highest point in Kenya by far, is Mount Kenya at 5,199 metres, and it is covered in ice. No track. The Kenyan highlands average 900 to 2,000 metres. The highest track in the world is probably in the Quito, Ecuador area, which is probably the highest point in the world with a substantial population and any interest in track. And to all you "elevation" enthusiasts- you don't see many Ecuadorians dominating the world of distance running.
West Texan is correct the AFA Colorado Springs is 7200ft.
They probably can't train, that's why! Haha.
Ecuador's Rolando Vera did very nicely about a dozen years ago on the US roads.
Leadville, Colorado has a cinder outdoor track with ok stadium seating at 10, 500. Back in the day when the mining at Climax was still going, Leadville was consistenly winning the state championship in cross and track for boys and girls. This years boy\'s distance runners are decent. Alex Wills, a junior, is good enough to run D2. By the way, these guys all skate ski too, like the Scandanavians. Close to 50 miles of groomed trail in and around the city from Novemeber to April, but you still see a good number of people out running every day too.
No, not running.
There is a rubber all weather track in Cloudcroft New Mexico at 9600ft. It's a great little small town and if I had the money I would place a training group there. Even though it is so high, the weather never really gets that bad, as it is Just off the Alamosa/White Sands desert floor.
