It's like the olympic trials, the people who made the cutoff shall go. If Fauble or Dunbar forfeits, it should go to the next person in line at the trials.

The next person at the Trials isn't in Uganda. So your reply is a total hypothetical. The OP's hypothetical is at least somewhat realistic.

Yes, absolutely, one of them should switch with Chelimo, giving the team depth in case one of the top four Kenyan-born athletes doesn't have a great day and Chelimo we know to be in great shape and a possible medal winner.

(How many will get injured in the ditch? That is just a bad decision to put that in there, not because it is xc but because it is almost designed for injury. Instead, use the seven hills of Kampala to make a very tough course.)

Was Chelimo hurt during the XC champs or did he just not participate? How far was the roll-down to field a team?

If I were either of those two guys, I wouldn't turn my spot over. That's a lifetime dream, and a 2k consolation package is not the same.

Why does Paul think he can run Worlds if he didn't finish USAs? What's the point of running USAs then, if we just put our top track guys in our lineup..

It is not right to tell another pro runner to give up his spot for someone to run without qualifying for the team. Paul should have said "I wish I ran USAs last month".

Our team is still rock solid and should do well.

Exactly, if we just went with the best 3 on paper, then Jared Ward would've never made the Olymlic team and got a surprise 6th at the Olympics or Chelimo would've never made the team and gotten a suprise silver medal at the Olympics. You can't just go with the best 3 on paper, the trials are for a reason.

Real shame. Dunbar was sick and didn't run. A solid top ten from Chelimo and we would have won bronze.

He could have been in States doing Army work instead of traveling for a training run.

IMO, at least he could have acted like it mattered to him.

If you are competing for the U.S. then give 100% - you can do training runs in the your home base.

What a joke how these guys take advantage of the system for years.

Maiyo joined Army in January 2010 and has not done anything world class in 7 years but they still carry him in program despite never achieving the basic standards of acceptance.

Nice use of taxpayer dollars.

So why do most other countries select? Liquori may have done well at Montreal; he set AR 2 mile within week of Montreal. What about WR holder in women's 100HH?

The only reason US has an Olympic trials is for $$$$$. How else do you explain 1980?
