Which approach is better? I would think you could do that kind of a tempo run in training. I've done 12 and 16 mile tempos at MP in training solo.

as soon as i saw she ran 1:11 i definitely knew she wasrunning MP. There is no way she got beat that bad. Shes playing it smart

She started off with the lead pack, at least for the first 10k I think. I would say she just went for it and all off, but at the same time, Huddle and Sisson threw in a hard negative split so maybe she didn't slow down much at all. I honestly think she was actually trying to run this competitively though.
