No formal logic course. My 8th grade teacher was retiring (late 80s), and gave me his old copy of Paul Cohen's book on the independence of the continuum hypothesis. I can't say I ever understood forcing that well. He also gave my Stark's number theory book, which I used more. I have a research position in university mathematics for the last 15+ years.

I got a master's in logic and computation at the same time as my b.s. in discrete mathematics. I'm getting my phd in math now and use none of what was taught in my logic classes in my research (mostly in external combinatorics). Formal logic is rarely useful for other types of mathematics. It's nonsense to think it would be useful in a broader setting.

For reference, the logic classes I took were 'basic logic' (up through completeness of FOL and basic model theory), recursion theory, two category theory classes, proof theory, and one real model theory class. Again, I wouldn't say I use any of this on a daily basis, although I am currently getting Isabelle to check my formal proof that the op is a troll.

A PhD in philosophy doesn't make you a philosopher, it makes you an expert on philosophers, which is a wasteful thing to be.

I'm glad people don't use logic. I love the illogical as much as I love the poorly educated!

Everyone in the general population uses logic. About half use standard logic and the other half uses alternative logic.

I've always been pretty logical, getting by that way in areas where perhaps something else was expected. For example, my geometry teacher did not appreciate it when one of my proofs concluded with "the process of elimination postulate."
