I need a versatile shoe for 5k to HM. In the past I have primarily run 5ks with only an occasional 10k. This year I want to add in a few HMs. I have been a fan of adidas recently. I train in boston boost and love them. My racing flat is the old hagio. I have a history of calf tightness causing achilles or PF issues. So a very low heel drop is not good over HM distance. The 6mm hagio is really pushing it. (If I ever made the time to work on my calf flexibility this would not be an issue.)
The Adidas Takumi Sen looks like a boost version of the hagio. So I feel I know what I’d be getting, a great shoe but a risk of killing my calves over HM. I love the boost material in the boston, so this is shoe is enticing.
The Nike Streak 6 caught my eye because of the 8mm drop, closer to what I’m used to in the Boston. I know it’s more of a marathon shoe, but how does it perform over 5k? At 6.4 oz it is plenty light enough. I have also seen a lot of negative reports on durability. Specifically one design flaw that causes the side of the upper to tear after 100 miles.
Honorable mention is the Asics Hyperspeed 7, NB 1400v4, and Adidas adios. The adios I know Id like, just seems a little heavy for 5k.
Would like to hear testimony on any of the above shoes.
