440 yds, nice cinders, well maintained. Great track. Extra long chute lets you run a 220 with only one corner. Lots of grass nearby for warmup runs.
Or maybe you're talking about the indoor track behind Building 4? That was a torture chamber - always got shin splints in the winter.
Or at least that's the way it was in 1962. Geez I'm old!
I have some friends who go there, though none of them are as fast a I am. I am an indoor All American, but no one there is. I'll ask them about the track size.
Dickinson Stadium is 440 yards. 4 laps to the mile - it is not a metric track. The surface is in desparate need of an overhaul . . . you would think that when the men AND women win the state title that might be a catalyst. I think its being replaced as part of the whole school renovation (a totally different political adventure).
and yes, it used to have a 220y cinder straightaway. This is how the 200 school record is obscene for Massachusetts standards (21.2).
Bill Carr - was your mom a teacher in Newton?
Thank you, Bill, purple, and stizz!!!The surface is degrading -- in fact, it's worse now from the severe winter snow. However, it is still functional for my modest purposes: I did a couple of 880's there recently, and I was curious as to the length, as my fear was it was short.Happily, I have learned that it is not, but perhaps I'm more prepared for Boston Monday than I thought(!).Thanks, again!

Mr. Purple,
My mother did not teach in Newton. The last time she taught was at the Police Academy in Framingham in the mid 1980's.

Maybe it was grandma? Ann Carr tought me at Underwood elementary in 5th/6th grades ('55-'56). She had a son named Bill, I thought.
Good memories of winning a lot of my 1/4's in JV track. I wish I had just a little of my 54.8 PR back now!
