Renato Canova often goes on about how epo acctualy decreases performance because it increases blood viscosity. Now i don't know anything about the science of the body. But if you want to decrease(or maybe i got it mixed up and you want to increase it, regardless...) blood viscosity couldn't you take a drug to do that? It seems to me that there are blood types that are better for running, regardless of what they are you should be able to use drugs to get the better blood type right? When Canova say epo doesn't increase performance, his arguments only apply to epo, am I right? Or does he argue that top athletes acctualy have the optimal blood types automaticly?
Lets not talk about the so called mental effects of taking a drug. To me that's nonsense, and could easily be walked around simply by having the coach slip in something without the athlete noticing.
Also keep this disscusion only about top marathon athletes. I know it is well known that non elite athletes can increase performance with epo.
