This was one of the greatest flats I have ever seen. Light as the lightest spike, no unnecessary material, and it felt like you were running barefoot, probably more so than even the Nike Free with that big heel Nike put into it.
So my question, to anyone in the know; Why did New Balance fix what wasn't broken and discontinue this popular flat, and could they bring it back with enough runner requests?
Get the Puma H Street. It's the RC150 with a more flexible sole! It's a great racing shoe!
I'll guess they weren't making much money with it, or felt they would make more money by pursuing a different strategy. Racing flats can't be a profitable venture for any of the companies - consider sales volumes versus trainers.
The same reason they "updated" the wildly popular 763 with the lame 764 and moderately resurrected (but still inferior) 765.

They probably discontinued it because it was unsafe for any distance at any speed. You would be lucky your feet didn't crumple into a pile of mash after wearing it for any length of time.
what about the 205? i know it's more substantial, but does anyone have any input on those?

I know guys who ran 1200 miles on the 150s.

I have to say, as a pretty minimalist shoe guy, the RC150 was brutal. Good shoe, but the heel counter was the most unforgiving thing I have ever encountered. I couldn't run over 5 miles in them without tearing the skin off my achilles. I"m talking blood on a 7 mile run once. The Puma H Street is a better (and cheaper) version of the RC150. No heel counter, same weight approximately, more flexible, and won't tear your foot apart.

I ran in the NB RC150's. A very, very good shoe. No problems with it. I wish New Balance brough it back.

I hear yo on the heel coutner issue -- always seems to happen with me and NB. Just yesterday, I laced up the NB 500 for 6x1mi on the track and by the time I got to the first 60s rest I had blood running down my achilles. Damn heel counters.
Because the big shoe companies bite the big one. Every good shoe I have owned has been discontinued or 'improved' until it no longer resembles the model I enjoyed.
NB used to make a great shoe, the 320, back in the mists of time. It was blue with a yellow and white "N" on the side. I went thru 2 pairs of those and was baffled, in my youth, about why the shoe was no longer available around '82 or so. They were my first post-HS running shoe. After those I went to the ancient Etonic Streetfighters, got thru 2 pairs of those, too, before Etonic killed them. (Be advised the 'Streetfighter' model that Etonic pushes now is loaded with 'added features' which make it a clunker.

Trackhead, Why would you even bother with anything other than the h street if it is the ultimate shoe?
I have the 550 and they are great but the toe lining leaves much to be desired. It is very coarse mesh and tends to chew the toes up on the downhills.
I agree, the 550 is great, but where the hell can I buy more of them? I can't find anywhere to order them and I've looked.
I have been wearing H-Streets and NB 150s as casual shoes for quite a while now. I can say with 100% certainty that they are NOT identical. The sole on the H-Steet is narrow and fairly high off of the ground making for a very unstable feeling. The NB 150s have a sole that actually covers the whole bottom of the shoe with a very low profile. The H-Street absolutley does not mimic barefoot running, the ride is far too unstable. The RC150s do a considerably better job at this. Additionally in my experience, the heel counter is just as still in the HStreet as in the 150s. In my opinion, the NB 150 is the ultimate minimalist shoe.
Forgive me, but this is a serious question:
Are the H streets even intended to be real running shoes? I froogled them and they seem to be marketed more as some sort of fashion accessory - 70,s redux sort of thing.
