I think she can get Jearl Miles Clark American record at 800 before her career ends, she reminds me of Cuban great at 400 and 800 Ana Quirot.
I expect her to stay with the 400 at least until Tokyo 2020, she looks so good in the 500 and 600's this indoor season, I think she can AR at 800 someday when she decides to move up to it.
she has the potential to be great at both but doubt if she explores the 800 anytime soon like you said. okolo is faster at 200m than quirot and jmc so she shows more potential improvement in the 400.
felix and hastings are both aging and okolo will be the top 400 usa woman in the next year or two. miller and jackson are the same age as okolo. right now those are the only two competitors on par with her. in the 800 there is too much uncertainty about who her top competitors would be. who knows what will happen with semenya and the others which is why i bet she stays with 400m for a good while longer.
Okolo is an incredibly versatile athlete. She will go in the 600 again this weekend. Will be interesting to see her race alongside Wilson and Chambers. Definitily a sub 1:25, but don't think they will better Montano's AR. Interestingly, it looks like Montano will be getting some good speed work in this week, as she is entered in the 300! These national champs with odd distances will bring more excitement than the European Indoors lol
Okolo with an impressive 1:24.00 to finish second! I haven't seen a video yet, but from the splits I saw, it appears hat she was chasing Wilson all the way to the finish line! Chambers not too far behind those 2 as I had predicted.
Obvious by now, but Montaño did not race this weekend in ABQ. Suhr was listed as DNS on the scoreboard for the pole vault, but I did not see that Montaño was for the 300 (could have missed it).
With the 800-lb gorilla snatching up all the gold medals (400/800 in London?), I feel really bad for athletes like Okolo.
Saw the race. She let Ajee dictate the race and tried to turn on the jets at the end. She found out no one really has jets at the end of a 600 even if you don't blaze the first 400. Had she gone out more aggressively and not run extra distance in the outside of lane one and part of two she could have gone 1:23 mid. Richards Ross was right about Okolo needing to be more aggressive.
