D1 coaching concern

That's not normal for DI. Most DI coaches are actually the opposite because athletes at that level are experienced enough. I only saw my coach 3x per week and never heard him raise his voice, because we all understood that if we didn't work our azzez off then it would show race day. The problem is, he won't change and you won't convince him. I would look to transfer.

Does he coach both men and women?

It's a trust issue for both of you and some insecurity on his part.

The best thing to do would be to sit down and talk about it. This would be a good opportunity to build a closer relationship and establish trust and responsibility. If results are what you are looking for then it sounds like he is able to get them. There is most likely a better way for you to handle it and for him to communicate it.

Sounds like a heaping dose of insecurity and unprofessionalism on his part. Best way to handle this is to stand up and confront the shameless prick.

She could be talking about conference, not nats.

In the ACC, for example, you have to run a certain time to compete in the conf meet.

Barring that, each team can pick a top 2, even if they don't auto qualify.

Suck it up and hit your splits.

Coach, yes he does coach some of the boys too but for some reason they don't feel this his sideline demeanor is so inappropriate. To be fair they get good results too considering where we're at.

I do try to hit the splits but he has a knack of setting them just at the margins of what I can do that week. Really. Like during the ladders he wants 29s for the final 200. I have decent speed for a MD chick lol I've run sub-26 for the open 200 but these sessions are tough. I just feel like I'm about to puke up and I manage a 30.5 or so and he's yelling coz it wasn't 29 point. I guess I shuld have been more specific. That one really phases me.

I want to be realistic. College is the time to realize my running goals. I admit I started reading this board ages ago during middle school and eddylee really inspired me :) I don't want to quit on this or transfer but I need to manage this interaction better.

Have you tried to have a sit down in which you tell him that you're focused on hitting the splits and goals which he has for you, but that method of communicating isn't working for you? If you're able to do that outside of the heat of the moment so it doesn't look like you're showing him up, he might respond. If that doesn't work, you may need to bring in a 3rd party such as the SWA (senior women's admin) or your sports ATC (trainer) to mediate the next meeting. Let him know that you share his passion for your running, but you know what helps inspire you and his approach doesn't work for you. For some it might, but you have the right to say it doesn't work for you and expect that he would respect you on that. Good luck-it sounds like your heart is in the right place and I hope he responds positively and appropriately.
