This is a far cry from the Steve over the last decade coming on here as SJM1368 proclaiming Dr Brown the best in the World.

A former coach at the Nike Oregon Project says he is worried about his long-term health after its boss Alberto Salazar and the team doctor allegedly used him as a guinea pig to test the performance enhancing benefits of different drugs.
Steve Magness was Salazar's deputy at the Nike Project in 2011. But he claimed his own health was disregarded as Salazar, Mo Farah's principal coach since January 2011, sought to identify substances that could give his athletes an edge.
Magness also claimed that when he was a teenager the team's doctor, Jeffrey Brown, told him he had the disease Hashimoto's Thyroiditis but he is now concerned it was a bogus diagnosis.
Salazar and Brown are currently under investigation by the United States Anti-Doping Agency and one of their alleged offences is an abuse of thyroid medication, which is thought to help athletes lose weight and give them a feeling of lightness.
'When I was 15 or 16 I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's,' Magness told Sportsmail, 'as a teenager I'm not going to think 'is this doctor diagnosing me with the wrong disease?' You just accept what the doctor says. But a decade later you're sitting there thinking: 'do I have this thing or was it just because the treatment for it might improve my performance?'
He must be stupid. Did he get a second opinion? Why did he work for AlSal?
If the guy is was really into the science of running, why would he accept the opinion of just one doctor.

I've never seen someone defend their own diagnosis so much as Magness over the years. Now he is suggesting he wasn't? Wouldn't someone as into science as him have come to this figure this out a long time ago if it were true? I'm sorry but this guy has gone off the deep end.

Magness was never the sharpest tool in the box.
Are any of the old Magness threads easily available? Threads to which Alberto seems to be referring in which Magness defends the diagnosis?
There are zero people not "on the take" who believe that Salazar is a better person than Magness.

Rupp went to the same doctor that I go to for my thyroid problem. He's in good hands and should be feeling better soon.
The thyroid pills kick in pretty quickly, but the problem is that it is tough finding the right dosage. It's really just a guessing game of trial and error for a while. You try taking one pill for a while, then take blood tests and see if that was too much or too little. There is a lot of fine-tuning and tweaking involved. For instance 5 days a week I take one dosage, and then two days a week I take a higher dosage. That's the combo that has worked best for me for now.
My opinion on some of the questions brought up by the above posters:
-I don't think overtraining has anything to do with it. In actuality, the thyroid problem is probably the reason that Rupp may have showed some signs or symptoms of overtraining. Hypothyroidism really really affects your ability to recover.
I know if I'm off by a bit in my dosage, I'll feel like crap for a while. The legs feel sluggish all of the time, no zip out of the legs, tired all of the time, etc. Plus my sleep cycle can go crazy and I'll start having trouble going to sleep no matter how exhausted I am.
-There's a good reason that this didn't surface until now. I didn't find out I had it until a coach suggested I go get some blood work done. A lot of the symptoms are the same as normal wear and tear of training hard as a distance runner. It's hard to seperate the sluggishness and tiredness b/c you are training hard and that caused by the thyroid thing. Plus, if you have no idea you have that problem, you really don't know how your supposed to recover to normal training anyways. Once I got the problem sorted out, I was amazed out the difference in recovery after workouts. For the longest time I thought I was supposed to feel like crap for a long time after hard workouts.
Anyways, it doesn't surprise me to see some of the results that Rupp has had after hearing he is hypothyroid. It's hard for most people to understand, but it really can affect your training and racing. Whenever I'm racing bad, that's the first thing I always have to check. It's a pain because you really don't know if it's just that the thyroid is off, or if you really are on the brink of overtraining.

Man, I guess the latest revelations are making people nervous at the NOP. Looks like they're paying their PR firm overtime this week.
I don't know if the NOP is getting their money's worth, though. "Look! Magness accepted what a doctor told him when he was a teenager! And now that he has a graduate degree and two decades more experience with the sport of running, he's starting to have doubts. Inconsistency!"

He was 15 then but just a couple years ago he wrote a novel on his website about Thyroid and being diagnosed etc. It's obvious two years ago he thought he had it and defended his diagnosis. Why didn't he mention his fears then? Is it out of desperation that we are no turning on our doctors and diagnosis?

He has seen one of "Jerry's best runners" many years ago.
