I had to get that out. I'm a member of an endurance sports group, that consists of LD runners, triathletes, swimmers, etc. A lot of them wear Hoka running shoes, so I can't throw sarcasm out there when I am around them. They really, really like those shoes.
They look ridiculously bulky and tall, but they are super light and comfortable. I had plantar fasciitis in both feet for a long time. Bought a pair of Cliftons and it's gone. Not sure if it's the only reason or just part of it, but I enjoy them, especially for long runs.
and here I just take my shoes off and run around huge soccer fields when my legs hurt

I feel the same way. I have running buddies who worship those shoes, so I try not to bash them too much. I can't help but to compare those shoes to Air Jordans of the running scene. I like my shoes slim and light. Not bulky and comfortably light?

Whoever gave you those measurements are getting them from measuring the exterior height of the midsole and outsole.
What they should be doing is measuring with a caliper the interior stack height.
Try the Hoka Tracers. More like a "regular" shoe. I like shoes that are lightweight, for neutral runners and feel fast. I like the Tracers...

99% of injuries get better with time as long as you stop doing what hurt you in the first place. The Hokas themselves are largely irrelevant to the recovery preached for them. I, like the poster, have found as much success just running a few less miles around grassy fields for a few days.
