Run SMART Project Reviews? Looking for a Training Plan

daniels formula has a good plan, but yeah, you seem ready to start intervals for sure, get it if you dont like the one in the book

I used the run smart project when I first started running for a little more than 6 months and it improved my performance enormously. Even when I thought I couldn't get any better I had another breakthrough. The key to the run smart program and all programs is to stay consistent. The great thing about this program is that your long run is every Saturday(or Sunday), track work is every Tuesday and Thursday and a day off is every Friday if you need it. No this is not an ambassador for run smart just a highly satisfied user writing this.

I use his workouts he created then mold them to fit MY training. He gives you all the tools you need and an example simplified plan. YOU make the adjustments and critique it as needed. Try to stay within the boundary of the phases if your just starting out. Once you got the hang of it, you'll have the knowledge on how to apply it later on. Keep the book near by in case you need to reference it. I'm not the most experienced Daniels follower like other posters on here, But I've been using his methods for the past year with tremendous results. Good luck.

I went ahead and ordered the 5K training. I like the fact that I can sync it with my Garmin. That makes life easier.

Some great advice from somebloke - the simplest is often the best...

I do think you can make great short-term gains from the SMART programme but can lead to injuries as the running sessions are very demanding. On the other hand, if you have good biomechanics you have 4 days to recover or cross-train...I used the SMART programme to train my first three marathons - around the 3 hour mark...I even wrote a book about it! Long-term finding your fit within one of the JD programmes is the way to go...but if you want to some short-term gains, try it out

From the beginning it was apparent that Morgan was running at a different level to me but it was also clear that this didn't matter - the lessons he learned and communicated were true regardless of ability. The low points were particularly interesting, in terms of how he found his way back from them and the consequent physical and emotional gains. He also provided really effective guidance as to how one can improve as a runner, the results of which I am seeing in my own performance. It's also just a really good read as you chart his progress across a variety of locations and cultures. Highly recommended!
