I agree that Stones undoubtedly deserve all the love they get.

But I think Zep was the best live band ever. Now granted, I never saw either in person, but I have heard LOTS of live taped shows of both. Both great, but Mick would often sing every song at the same pace/rythm, without a lot of nuance, like it was a track meet he was trying to bust through. The rest of the band was usually great, but they played their songs TOO consistently, TOO much like the record.

Zep on the other hand took their studip songs, played them true to the record (they did not make them unrecognizable, like some acts do, like Dylan does sometimes) for the most part......BUT THEN ALWAYS EXTENDED A PART HERE OR THERE, OR ADDED SOME BALLSY JAM, OR EXCERPT FROM ANOTHER SONG. I loved that about them. One of them would take the song in a slighly different direction, the rest would follow, they would jam the f*** out of the song, and then seamlessly find their way right back to the standard rendition for the conclusion.

Zep = best live band ever. That was a BAND.

(and ok, Page was sloppy sometimes, but he MORE than made up for it with his creativity and power)

"Technical virtuosity" is f***ing borrring! Cobain got tired of hearing a bunch of primadonas jerking off to how fast they can hammer out scales. Kurt Cobain produced a legion of solos that embody a "creative virtuosity" that is not only highly original but a calculated revolt against mullet-rock.
