possible that poistagova (spelling?) may be stripped as well since she has tested positive, so probably another bronze after semenya and jelimo
Good. Now we don't have to hear her histrionics anymore.
Would be a likable athlete without her ridiculous theatrics and calling anyone who critiques her a bully
Is the story a year old, or is it from today? Check the date, letsrun.com
Congrats to Alysia!
I think that she is likeable.
I think it's important to note that she has paid an enormously high price for Russian doping. Remember, she was dropped by Nike after making an Oly team (among many other accomplishments) and did not receive bonuses for the medals that she now stands to receive. Whatever deal she had with Asics likely wasn't great, and it appears to be over now anyway. Yes, she was upset after the trials. I have no issue with that. When you put your heart out there for years, and devote your life to running two laps around the track as fast as possible -- KNOWING that it's probably your last Olympic trials, knowing that you are dealing with dopers who stole medals and money, knowing that you are dealing with intersex athletes -- I can't even begin to imagine the grief and frustration. She gets a pass from me. Her reaction was raw and honest -- and life is sometimes messy. No way am I going to Monday morning quarterback her reaction.

What intersex dopers was she dealing with at the trials?

NO! Bleh!
The IAAF/CAS Freak Show continues as Semenya is upgraded to Olympic gold.....
she was dropped by asics right?
So no bonus, no benefit.
She's kinda screwed.
I mean I think she was such a raw talent that she could have had those medals anyway if she didn't run like an idiot. Brenda medaled against dopers, and hasn't run nearly as fast as Alysia.
I feel awful for her, but I would feel more sorry for her if she didn't run herself out of medals.
As evidenced by my reference to Russian dopers AND intersex athletes, I was referring to the women's 800 on the international stage.
Montano has been dealing with dopers and intersex athletes for years. (With Savinova stripped, Semenya gets upgraded, right?). She is a multi-time US champion and record holder. She was in all likelihood running her last trials, and with Wilson not in top form, she had an excellent chance of making the team.
I get that most of the people here think she should have reacted differently. Fine with me. I have a different view.
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
I wholeheartedly agree with your post. Well written.
Her "running herself out of medals" was a specific response to the way she knew Savinova would race, coming from behind in an impossible (without drugs) fashion.
I also agree on both counts.

Will John Anderson (the voice in the wilderness) at least mention this on SportsCenter?
I understand the sentiment, but let's be clear.
She did not just win two medals.
She was awarded the two medals.
Winning is based on the performance in the actual race.
Without the Russian, does the race play out differently?
It was just a matter of time. I agree she has been screwed over by the dopers but what is disheartening is that the federation(IAAF) also had a hand in it, taking bribes and knowingly allowing the cheating to happen. I would be pissed as hell too. Endorsements lost, additional sponsors waiting to partner with medalists and moments lost, these are immeasurable damages.
Great for Montaño ☺ðŸ‘. It's about time they did something with Savinova...the Russian PED-fueled program, particulary with the women's mid-D runners was getting ridiculous.

The medals should be stripped from Montano because of the idiocy she displayed at the trials last year. Besides, she's likely as dirty as any Russian or Kenyan anyway.
