Last night did 10 x 200 (1 min) @ 28,29,28,29,29,29,28,29,29,29
Can run 5k in 16.12 and 10k in 33.50 so endurance is half decent

Not an indicator workout as a very different energy system mix.
If you can't go at least 1:56-7 then you're a puss and basically screwed. If you actually have some real speed (not just this 28-29 bs, yeah, many reps I get it) then why not 1:54 or so. If a 51-52 second 400 is easy for an open 4 or 4x4 then you could be even quicker. Again, all also depends on if you're a mental puss or not.

Agree. I don't really get the point of this 28-29s 200 rep garbage.

It's a good session, especially, for this time of year but it really isn't an 800m predictor. My gut instinct from your other PBs is low 2 minutes.
I have done this workout completing 20+ reps in the same time and recovery. 1 minute is just plenty of time to recover from a 200m rep. You can get into a rhythm.
It doesn't stress you enough to be a predictor session, but it is a great training session nonetheless and not every session should be run until you vomit like some think.

I'd agree with this but it depends on a number of factors eg 400m pr - and most important your 800m pr
Coaching or running is not a quiz. You need to put in as much info as possible. eg age mileage all pb's
One guy could run this workout and do 1:55 and another 2:05
Some guys I've see run this and go sub 2 but they were running closer to 15 for 5km so your endurance is not all that brilliant, its ok
you will run right at 2 flat
i agree with many here, it really depends. I wouldn't be surprised to see you right around 2:00

Good post. It's a fine workout but the other work you're doing is vital to know.
I find 10-12x200 on 1:00 rest will usually be faster than current 800 ability, maybe even faster than 600 ability. With that 1:00 rest, the workout just doesn't really need much speed endurance and lactate tolerance. (It's a good way to rack up a lot of quality running without being very stressful, running fast and feeling good doing it, so a great go-to early in the season.)
Myself, right now I'd run that workout at the same pace as the OP, and I'm racing around 1:29, 2:05.
I used to run 20 X 200 in 23 with a walk between.
If you're fast enough its easy. If you're not, its a struggle. The question is if you can go any faster than 28 seconds.
I knew a guy who ran a 2:10 marathon
30 minute 10 K
2:01 800
60 second 400.
If you have any speed its easy. And this guy was a rankled marathon guy back in the day. He just had no speed.
I'd rather see you running reps at 25 - 26.
In college we used to run 10 X 300 with 45 seconds between. 300 m indoor track - tartan. 35 for the last one, and no slower than 38 - 40 for all.
Speed is key. You need to demonstrate it.

Have to be like a 1:42/3:29 man to do that session surely.

10 x 300m in 35-36 seconds with surges and help from a "rabbit."
http://run-down.com/guests/mv_el_guerrouj.phpDude that is too much recovery. If you do 4 x 800 in 1:58-59 with 30s recovery, I'll give you a 2:00.7
If your a puss, then 2:00.8

BS.
He never put out a proper effort over 400 in a race if he had a 2:01 800 and a 60 for 400.
Physiology.
2:10

You're slow. 22.9 or a bust.

Agree with this completely. Hate when people freaking say that people that have no speed are are to run their max pace forever. It's BS. Physiologically impossible.
For a 2:01, you at least have to be able to hit a 57.
